Another of the attractions of Canyamel and the neighbouring towns is their rich historical, cultural, and architectural heritage. Must-see sites are the majestic Cuevas de Artà, l’Estany de sa Torre, the Torre Nova des Cap Vermell and its striking panoramic views, the Capdepera castle with its ‘Museu de la Llata’ (a museum of crafts using palm fronds), or the lighthouse in Capdepera, which marks the easternmost point of the island.
If you would like to learn more about local production and crafting, it is essential to visit one of the markets that is organised on a weekly basis in the towns in the area. Artà, a town near Canyamel, holds a large market each Tuesday where fresh-grown produce can be bought, alongside handcrafted items that are typical of the island, as well as clothes, decorative materials, fashion jewellery, and more. Wednesday is market day in Capdepera. In Son Servera, ten minutes away by car, market day is every Friday.
